A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks

A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks is a romantic novel tainted with a little bit of mystery. Miles Ryan has lived the past two years of his life wandering who had killed his wife, Missy Ryan. She was found lying next to the street with a blanket over her and had obviously been hit by a car, yet the car and its driver were nowhere to be found. Miles who happens to works for the police and has worked tirelessly, using every possible resource available to him, to solve this mystery. Miles son, Jonah, was seven years old and struggled in school. Two of his previous teachers had ignored it and figured it to be a result of his mother’s death, his new teacher, however, felt that she should mention it to his father.
Miles and Jonah’s teacher, Sarah Andrews, hit it off almost instantaneously and were soon dating. Sarah was divorced and moved to New Bern to start fresh. Before long, they were deepening their relationship and eventually Sarah, partially with her mother’s constant insisting, she invited Miles and Jonah to their family dinner. Most of her family seems to like Miles, only her younger brother seemed to be uncomfortable with the Ryan’s presence. Sarah wrote it off as shyness and Miles thought nothing more of it.
Soon after things began to resurface about Missy Ryan’s death as new evidence comes to light. Miles is driven crazy trying to prove that Otis, the notorious gangster of the town, killed his wife in cold blood. As the new evidence begins to fall through due to a witness going off the map, Miles decides to try to take things into his own hands which begins to take its toll on his relationship with Sarah who is, like Miles co-worker and Sheriff Charlie Curtis, tries to make him see the sense in his actions.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. Particularly I would say if you have read and enjoyed any other Nicholas Sparks book you would enjoy this one as well. A Bend in the Road is an amazing story that shows the true power of love and the lengths that people will go to protect and keep their loved ones close to them.
