My Sister's Keeper

I read a lot of books this semester, during SSR. My favorite book was My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I like books that have an interesting plot. It definitely has everything: suspense, tragedy, romance, justice, and a twist at the end.
The main character is Anna. Anna Fitzgerald is not your normal 13-year old girl. She’s not exactly sick, but she might as well be. Throughout her life she’s undergone countless surgeries. But she didn’t undergo those surgeries for herself, but for her sister, Kate. Kate is the only reason Anna was born. Kate was diagnosed with leukemia and Anna is the only one who can save her. Kate’s parents decide to make a match, Anna, who is constructed to be a perfect donor match for Kate. Anna is forced to undergo painful and dangerous procedures to save Kate’s life, until she is 13. When Kate needs a kidney, she begins to realize that she doesn’t want to be forced to provide for Kate. She brings a lawsuit against her parents to claim the right to make decisions concerning medical procedures.

One thing that I like about this book is that all of the characters are well developed. The author sets up the background for each character and explains them very well. It’s a lot of information, but the book is definitely a page turner. Her writing style is very refreshing, but very effective because of the serious issues discussed.. This book has all of the suspense, drama, tragedy, romance, and justification needed for a book to be absolutely amazing. The book is interesting because you want to know what’s going to happen in the end. I finished the book in two days because I literally couldn’t put it down. Picoult’s writing style makes the book more interesting and easy to read. To heighten the suspense, the writer doesn’t use chapters. She switches back and forth from all of the main characters.

This book has just the right amount of suspense, drama, and action to keep the reader interested. If you’re looking for a book with a very touching, poignant and not-too dramatic story, then this book is definitely perfect for you. If you want a book to keep you interested from the first page to the last, then My Sister’s Keeper is a true winning choice.
