I believe that that people take the present for granted. As high school draws to an end, I’ve found myself reflecting more often, and realizing that I've had more great times than I had ever imagined I’d have. Somehow, though, I never realized how great things were. When I looked ahead, I've always seen impressive, untouchable things: positions that would loom in the distance, goals that never drew nearer, solutions that shirked in the shadows. These things seemed distant and grand, until they grew closer and disillusionment set in. nothing seemed as big or fancy up close. First place? Well, we just didn’t have enough competition. Learn to do splits? It took an entire summer. Peace at home? It was bound to happen. In the moment, nothing seems larger than life. Everything is normal, routine, average.
But at some point we must realize how amazing life is. Just as a child loves the moment they are living, we must do the same. Look as the friends you have and cherish them. Remember that what you are going through today, whether that is good or bad, will be gone tomorrow. So take too many pictures and laugh a bit too much. Hold someones hand and say good morning to the old lady on your way to school. Remember that you may just be making their day a little brighter. I believe in taking videos and writing what you feel. I believe in capturing the moment so you can look at it later. I believe feelings are momentary wonders. Pausing and reflecting on how great life is can do wonders. Remember that you have accomplished something and pay attention to the immensity of success.
Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. You just have to live life to the fullest, and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back. I believe in not taking the present for granted.
