A Tale of Rwanda

Deogratias is a member of the Hutu tribe of Rwanda. A Tale of Rwanda depicts a young man’s life before and after the Rwanda genocide. Deogratias is this alcohol addicted, broken down man. He is almost seen by most as some creature void of a soul. In a sense, that is true. He pretty much has nothing to live and he goes through everyday looking for alcohol. As we see how pathetic he is, we get an insight into the human being that he used to be as he remembers flashbacks of his childhood. We see his somewhat care free childhood spent with his tootsie girlfriends. He was an orphan that had little guidance. So from the beginning he was all by himself. He didn’t know how to deal with certain situations in the right way. As the genocide starts, he must decide what path he must take. Should he help his friends or side with the Hutu to save his life?

Overall this graphic novel is good read. We get a sort of personal connection with the Rwanda genocide. I recommend this to everyone.
