For SSR this year I have read a lot of books, but my favorite by far has been Handle with Care. I’ve read a lot of Jodi Picoult novels, but this one by far has been the best. I love the twists she adds to all her books and this one was no exception.
Handle with Care is a novel written by Jodi Picoult about a young girl born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta or better known as brittle bone disease. The young girl, Willow, is very fragile and even a sneeze can break a bone in her body. Willow’s parents decide to take her and her older sister to Disney World, where one fall leads to the destruction of one family, one friendship and many lives. This book follows this family as Willow’s mom decides to press charges against her OBGYN for wrongful birth, who also happens to be her best friend. This novel brings about the question of who has the right to decide when a life is truly considered a life. This story is told through several points of views and each one gives a different understanding on what is happening. During the course of this story willow begins to question her mothers love and her mother begins to question what her true motives were for starting all this. While dealing with all this, she still has to try and save her marriage, her other daughter with an eating disorder and try to make enough money to raise her kids. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it. It is sad and a little heartbreaking but it’s also a story of survival and fighting for what you love. It is inspiring and uplifting and you’ll really understand what it means to fight for what you love.
