This I Believe
I believe in the simple phrase that many has heard which is “keep trying, and never give up no matter what the odds are.” My mentality is that no one can tell me that I cannot do something. To be honest I knew my football team this year wasn’t going to be as great as we usually are and I had an opportunity to pack the bags and head on over to a better school, but I chose to stay and not give up on my teammates that all relied on me. My team was very young full of sophomores and juniors. We began losing 4 straight games in the beginning and I felt like giving up on my team but I kept trying and playing every game to the best of my abilities. Eventually we came out with a “W”. You can never appreciate the true things in life without having it took en away from you. With the excessive losing streak, it made me realize how great it feels to earn a win, the taste of victory could never be so sweeter. Not every story has a great ending, as of ours, we lost in the 1st round of the playoffs and I didn’t get to play that last game due to an ankle injury. My last football game as a senior in high school and I didn’t get to play. As I watched on the sideline, my boys fought their hearts out for me so that I could play the next week. Every last game is a heartbreaker, but my teammates kept trying and never gave up. I learned so much playing my senior year for the Mayfair Monsoons that I know is going to help me in the future. The phrase I believe in helped me all through life and I’m glad I stuck with it because I was rewarded the satisfaction of the small things in life and learned how to be a true leader.
