I personally have a very difficult time finding a book that I actually commit to. This year was no different than any other year; fortunatley, there was one author that came to my rescue. For One More Day by Mitch Albom was a very aspiring book to me. Like most of his books, For One More Day was about life lessons and a deeper insight to the full meaning of a person's life. I find his stories to be really original and deep. For One More Day is about a man who has hit a midlife crisis and is not happy with his life. In an attempt to commit suicide, he endures an adventure that takes him through the memories of his life and how he came to be where he is. The book reveals many different circumstances which a lot of people can relate to and ends up being a really uplifting story. In a strange twist of fate, his suicidal attempt brought him back to his mother, who had died 8 years prior. Being able to spend one more day with her made him realize all the faults in his life and how he was looking at his life in the wrong way. The book is not very long to begin with, yet it is still an enjoyable read. Towards the end of the semester, I also began rereading To KIll a Mockingbird. This book continues to be one of the best books I have ever read and does not fail to keep me intrigued. I like how the story has so many different meanings to it. To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic American literature for clear reasons, it is a famous example of the loss of innocence. The story also deals with the issue of racial inequality but done so with good humor. I am still finishing up the book, but I still am able to get lost in the lives of Scout, Jem and Atticus. The characters are lovable and warm and Atticus plays the hero for all races. Although it was difficult for me to find books that i actually would like to read, I enjoyed my 1st semester SSR experience.
