Book Review: The Shack

SSR Book Review- The Shack

This book I didn’t read during SSR but at home. This is one of those books that make people ask questions. It is a great Christian book about a man who meets God after a great loss. The story made me look at god in a total different way that was so unexpected. It’s a story about God, Jesus, and the Holy Sprit.
The book starts out with a man named Mackenzie but goes by Mack. Mack lost his youngest girl missy to a murderer. She was abducted by a man who was a notorious child killer. They found a shack where she was killed but they didn’t find her. After this Mack was very depressed. He blamed God for letting it happen. He became distant with a God he knew very well before this. A few years later, Mack received a letter from God telling him to come up to the shack. He was flustered by this cause it was signed Papa. Papa is what Mack’s wife called God. Only Mack family knew that though so it was very confusing for Mack. Against his better judgment he decides to go to the shack. There he meets God, Jesus, and the Holy Sprit. He has time with each and every one of them. He speaks to God and learns why God let what happen to Missy happen. There he forgives his dad, God and gets to see his daughter. He eventually learns to forgive the murderer. There is much more to this story. It explains God in a different way that is very abstract and new. Also it explains heaven in a different way. There is a little twist at the end that explains how God worked to get him there.
I would recommend this book to anyone. It is a more Christian book, but it is a very good book. It has something for everyone.

  1. Interesting point of view Logan. Do you feel you understand The Trinity better? What do you think about Young using some sort of a caste system within The Trinity to explain their roles? I would love to talk to you about this book!
