I am not a comedian. I am not the class clown. But I do believe in the power of laughter. A single laugh can quickly brighten a person’s day even just for a split second. I believe that laughter is one of the most powerful actions in the world. It is like a universal language through the art of humor. Not only can it lighten a person’s day, but it has great healing power that no other prescribed drug can ever offer.
Recently, I’ve came across a psychological study that shows it is psychologically impossible to not like someone who has genuinely made you laugh at least five times or more. And if you think about it, how can you not? As I sit here and try to calculate how many times I have laughed, I’ve come to a conclusion that it is pretty impossible for me to dislike anyone in the universe. I believe that making people laugh can uplift the emotions of both the person giving and receiving the humor.
I think it’s pretty incredible that the simplest action can show so much positive sensation in oneself. It is one of those little things that you can easily offer and receive from someone and the outcome is genuine. Let’s say you’re not in a very good mood and everything that comes your way seems so irate. Suddenly, a person presents to you a hilarious joke to laugh at. What else is there to do but laugh? The next thing you know, the anger did not seem like it was there the first place; it provided us a sense of comfort.
Laughter has its ways of making someone forget their troubles away even if it’s just for a moment. It saddens me when I see someone who is afraid or too shy to laugh; it’s not something we should fear or be ashamed of. Laughter is kind of like a way to let people hear the happiness inside their hearts. It is not something we can hide; it will come out in some shape or form. As we combine our laughter as one, it may even sound like music being produced; it can be the number one hit in… well, the whole world.
