Gross! A Booger!

This I believe

I believe in telling people when they have boogers.

Walking around with a booger dangling out your nose is the one of the worst things, even more so than if you have a bright green, leafy substance stuck in your teeth. I am unsure when it became taboo to mention anything wrong with your appearance but I think it is just common courtesy to say (discreetly of course) “Excuse me, but you have a little something…” and you rub your nose. They will, of course, automatically look at you in confusion then sheer horror when they finally comprehend what you are saying. Who wouldn’t? They just realized they have been walking around, smiling, saying hi to people and maybe even eyeing the cuite they just passed by, with a booger up their nose, but after the initial shock, the use of a tissue and or napkin, and hopefully without much use of their fingers, they have extracted the green gooey nuisance and have thanked you. And in that, you have done a good deed, their only worries now are how long they had had it there and why someone had not said something sooner. I know I would like to be told if I had something coming out my nose, same goes if I had something stuck to my teeth, if my pants are a little lower than desired or if I accidentally spilled a little fruit juice.

I must admit, sometimes I refrain from telling someone because of the awkwardness and I realize it maybe awkward for some people to even tell their friends about that little green thing but a moment of awkwardness saves a person a whole day of embarrassment. Some people shrug it off thinking, “Aw, they’ll figure it out eventually.” But we all know, those pesky boogers, they can sometimes be as light as a feather. How is someone to know if the boogers are in super stealth mode? So buck up, muster up the courage to politely tell someone about any malfunction they maybe having: loose bra strap, hair sticking out of a ponytail, toilet paper stuck to a shoe, anything. The golden rule, do unto others as you would have done unto you and others would like to be told about the booger. It really isn’t just telling someone about their booger; it’s about saying what has to be said and having the courage to do so. I believe in telling people when they have boogers.
