This I Believe
This I believe: I believe in the power of communication. Something truly amazing happens when two people exchange language. They gain some insight into that other person's soul. Sure you can often detect a mood by facial expression, but when a person speaks properly and has a deep understanding of language you can read far deeper than moods. You learn about peoples motives, their loves, their feelings. You can understand why these people function the way they do. Through deliberate use of language, we can access mankind's most precious resources: knowledge, experiences, and understanding. Often times I leave a book with a deeper understanding of something. This could be understanding a person, idea, or the world around us better. It is mesmerizing to be able to read a book and understand what someone else is trying to convey to you.
On the other end of this spectrum are those who cannot use language effectively. These people we encounter on a daily basis, and are most likely a source of frustration. Those not adequate in the art of language often choose to be locked into their ideals. For their own personal reasons, they choose to live a life without connecting to and acknowledging other peoples minds and souls. I truly don't know which is worse, the fact I will never connect to them and expand my own understanding of this world, or the fact that they have chosen to lock themselves into their own minds and might never venture outside of it. Hopefully, however, they will chose instead to open up, stretch their spines, and loosen up the glue that binds the pages of their life so I might read into their souls as well.
I have found the benefits of sharing myself with others through communication to be extremely beneficial to my life. Holding the power of communication is like being the locksmith of the universe. One is often presented with a piece of literature or conversation and you may build a key and open this locked door and find your own truth and understanding behind it. With enough effort, ones potential for mental growth is one of the few infinities I have found to exist in this universe we call home. Through daily conversations, an internet web page, or the pages of a book, our minds are constantly building connections and learning. Through this act of pure kindness we can learn from both other peoples mistakes and triumphs and improve the quality of our own lives.
Communication is without a doubt man kinds greatest invention. There is an incredible amount of information waiting within every single one of us and through communication we can all access it. By communicating, our potential to grow and expand our minds rivals a nebula's potential to spread energy. It is such a inherently beautiful act many fail to notice, but everyone reaps the benefits of its practice. If we all took the time to communicate just a little more, and a little better, I believe this world would be a much better place. I believe in the power of communication.
