Drink, Play, F@#k: An SSR Review

Some of you may have heard of the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s a national bestseller based on the true accounts of Gilbert traveling across Italy, India, and Indonesia, in order to come to peace after divorcing her husband due to a failing marriage. So what happened to the spouse? In Drink, Play, F@#k by Andrew Gottlieb, we learn just that.

The story is centered on Bob Sullivan, who after eight years of marriage is divorced by his whom he finds extremely self-absorbed. An account executive living in New York, Sullivan decides that instead of moping around about his lost marriage, he will embark on a journey around Ireland, Las Vegas, and Thailand to get drunk, gamble, and get laid. What sounds like a vulgar, and gratuitous account turns out to be a fun, interesting journey that lacks an inappropriate nature. As the book progresses Sullivan begins to forget about his past and focuses more on having a fun time for the next year.

I would recommend this book to almost anyone, especially readers of Eat, Pray, Love. It is not as crude as the title suggests and has a great example of a dynamic character. What is meant to be a comical response to a bestseller turns out to be a happy and fun story for all.
