At first, I had trouble finding a book that I could get into. Actually, for a while I did. I started reading about 4 different books but none of them really interested me. If I wanted to become engulfed in a book I was reading then I would have to be sitting alone in my backyard with no distractions around me; a forty-five minute class period isn’t the kind of environment I can dive into a book. That made finding a book that interested me much more difficult and being that I’m not that fastest reader, made it harder to get into the meat of the book. Luckily Ms. Fletcher asked if anyone needed help finding a book that would interest them and so I asked for some advice. She suggested a book of short stories called “Jaguars Ripped My Flesh.”
Ms. Fletcher said that the author of this book, Jim Cahill, reminded her of me, which is probably why I like this book. It’s perfect for SSR because you won’t get cut off in the middle of your reading at the end of the period. The stories are random, short, descriptive and entertaining. They don’t drag on with seemingly irrelevant information and 2 page long descriptions of random characters. The stories take place in many different parts of the world in which the author writes about numerous experiences and new discoveries. For example, there’s a short story that takes place in Mexico, another in the Amazon and one story that explores random parts of the world relating alcohol to better communications. The book is smart, yet easy to understand. It’s entertaining and has a very human tone to it. I find myself pulling it out randomly in class and reading a quick story. It’s a rather dope book that you can read whenever. I recommend it. I rike. :]
