nothing would ever compare to that single moment when I first kissed the girl of my dreams and knew that my love would last forever."

Dear John, written by Nicholas Sparks is a love story. It’s one of those books you can’t put down, I found myself ignoring class lectures and walking to class with the book in my hand. Although I was disappointed at the end, this book still managed to bring tears to my eyes of joy and sadness and often made me laugh. This book is a true love story and shows the extremities people will go through for a loved one. Dear John takes place in a small coastal town, Wilmington, North Carolina. Savannah Lynn Curtis was visiting Wilmington with her volunteer group to build houses for the less fortunate. John Tyree is a resident in Wilmington; he dropped out of high school and enlisted in the Army. He was visiting home for a few weeks from his base in Germany and just got done catching some waves when some brunette girl’s purse dropped in the water. He dove right in for it and brought it to her. That was the moment he met Savannah Lynn Curtis. This is the moment it all began, when they loved one another so much it hurt them. Savannah invited John over for food and to hang out, after that night Savannah was all he could think about. She was the only person he wanted to be with. They started engaging in a relationship, sooner or later she met John’s dad. John’s dad collected coins and rarely talked to John and when he did, it was about coins. John and Savannah fell in love but things had to come to an end. Savannah went to college and John went back to Germany. Things weren’t the same for either of them, they missed each other terribly. They called each other when they could but things didn’t stay on good terms forever. They found each other fighting more and growing a part. 9/11 happened and things began to get difficult. Instead of coming home, John felt it was his duty to enlist again. This love story will make you hurt, it will get you mad and it will leave you disappointed but you get to read and feel the love they have for each other and you get an idea on how hard things can be. "I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for another person's happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be." I strongly recommend reading this book; it’s an easy, enjoyable read. Hopefully the movie doesn’t ruin the beauty of this story.
