This I Believe
As I do my breathing exercises and meditate, I feel as if there are no worries in my life, and I feel whole once more. I believe that there is a spiritual energy within all of us, as the Japanese call it Ki, or the Chinese Chi, it’s within us but, we must physically and mentally train in order to achieve its full potential. I believe that Ki is when the body and mind are in sync and that if honed in on, will release itself throughout the body. Being a Shinto/Christian, I believe in God, but also the beauty of nature and the spirits in which control them.
Many of the exercises I perform to reach this level of spirituality are meditating, yoga, and martial arts. Many people think that meditating is just closing your eyes and humming some odd tune but in fact, your eyes aren’t actually closed but focused on the tip of your nose without crossing your eyes. When meditating, one’s mind should be blank while focusing on the little part of the world you can still physically see. It’s harder than it sounds, most people can’t go more than ten seconds, the purpose is to still see something but not think but anything else in your mind. As with yoga and martial arts, body is half of Ki, and without a health body, one cannot obtain Ki successfully. Being able to better understand your body truly shows you what you need to focus on such as flexibility. I personally needed to work on flexibility and keeping a simple state of mind when doing these exercises. When feeling pain to become flexible, one must cope with this struggle and this is when mind come in, when the two are in sync with one another, the pain starts to dwindle.
I believe that within nature, there are Kami (spirits) which inhabit anything from the trees to the rivers. Kami are in the same sense, like Angels as written in the Bible and the Torah. I believe in this because we should preserve nature and respect it with all our heart. When I play tennis, I cannot help but look into the distance and look at the trees for inspiration, and see them their leaves swaying in the wind in unison. Many call me strange, but those who truly respect nature, are the ones who have found what life has to offer in all shapes and sizes.
