Whoooo!!! My first post to the blog!! So I was given this book by Ms. Fletcher because I had nothing else to read and it turned out to be a great pick. “The Man in My Basement” by Walter Mosley is a mysterious novel that kept me on edge the whole time. It tells the story of Charles Blakey and how is life changes dramatically from the beginning of the book to the last page. Blakey is approached by a rich white man who asks an odd favor to be done. Mr. Anniston Bennet offers to pay Charles a great deal to be locked in his basement. Seeing that this is a very unusual request, off the bat his answer is no. End of story right? Of course not; Charles actually starts considering it more than ever since he has no job and needs to pay the mortgage on the house that had been passed down to him from previous generations. After coming to the conclusion that Anniston Bennet was the only one who would actually give him money without a problem, he made the call. Bennet then moved in. All was well, until the unexpected began. There were deliveries before he came and the noise and construction began after he moved in. He began demanding Charles around like some housekeeper but paying him off as if he was a late night naughty call. I would love to tell you more, but I do not want to give any more of the book away. I suggest this book to readers who like mystery, a little thrill and who expects the unexpected. If you read this book and like the author’s style of writing, I also suggest “Killing Johnny Fry” which has a little more if a sexy twist to it. If you thought his first book had some detail to it just read the next one and be prepared to be shocked. I am currently reading my third Walter Mosley book “Diablerie.” Hopefully I will be able to bring back an awesome summery for this one as well, for those interested.
