For this semesters ssr I have been engaged in the The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. In the book there is a girl named Suzie Salmon "yes like the fish" as she says. Suzie is a typical 14 year old girl who likes to take pictures after receiving a camera for her birthday and also has a crush on a boy. But unlike other 14 year old girls Suzie encounters a great tragedy in her life, she is murdered. Suzie narrates the story about what her and her family go through after she is murdered. Her father is driven to find her killer who is a disturbed man living in her neighborhood. Suzie still feels that she didn’t deserve her fate and she is torn between two worlds. She is still between the real world on earth and the world that some would call heaven. She is dead and gone from earth but has not yet entered heaven, in the world she is in she meets another victim of the same disturbed man who killed her. This other victim is also a 14 year old girl and helps her try to cope with what has happened to her. Suzie tries to give signs to her dad to help solve her murder. Though Suzie’s dad wants to find out what exactly happened to Suzie other members of her family don’t feel the same as her dad. Her mom has a difficult time coping with what happened to Suzie and just wants Suzie’s dad to stop digging up the past. I am not a big reader, but I found this book interesting and it was hard for me to put down. I feel that this book was one that anyone would like to read and could also be based off of a true event. I recommend this book to people who do not like to read but are willing to give a good book a try :]
