With me loving the Twilight series, Mrs. Fletcher suggested that I read the Sookie Stackhouse series, which is the basis of the HBO series True Blood. I wasn’t really sure about the book series, but once I started reading I couldn’t put the book down. The series isn’t just about vampires as you might assume, but also about other magical creatures. There are werewolves, shape shifters, fairies, witches, and many other creatures.
Now you might be thinking that this is just another vampire love story, but you are so wrong. Yes there is love with vampires but not every book is about them. The first two books are mostly about vampires, but in the books following you will learn more about werewolves, shape shifters, fairies, and other creatures. If you love to read about magical creatures then this series is for you. But I must warn you that some scenes in these books are rated M for mature. We are all seniors here, and I hope that we can handle mature topics like this. If you are not mature enough for that then you can still read the book, but you might have to skip some pages.
In this specific book, Living Dead in Dallas (second one in the series), Sookie and her vampire boyfriend, Bill, are summoned to Dallas Texas to help find a missing vampire. Now you might be wondering how a simple human can help find a missing vampire? Well Sookie is no regular human. She is a telepath (can read peoples minds). Once in Dallas Sookie must listen in to people to see if she can find a lead. But in doing so she gets into some trouble. Will Sookie be able to locate the lost vampire, and keep all she loves safe? You will have to read the book to find out.
This series is really good. It feeds to your mystery side, romantic side, adrenaline side, and action side. I really enjoy the series and can’t wait to continue on. Hope that my review will help you decide if this is the book for you.
