for a rainy day

Dear John is a classic love story by Nicholas Sparks. It is filled with emotions including happiness, sorrow and bliss. The story is set in Wilmington, North Carolina; a small coastal city, full of tourists and tiny beach shops. Savannah Lynn Curtis is one of the many volunteers from Habitat for Humanity who is in Wilmington for the summer, rebuilding a house for someone in need. John Tyree is a local; growing up with his father in a small home just outside of town. The summer of 2000, John returned home on leave from the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. As expected, Savannah and John's lives collide on the beach when Savannah accidentally drops her bag off the pier. John, just finished surfing, dives in to retrieve the bag, and their story together begins.
Time progresses and the summer is perfect. They fall in love, learning about each other's pasts, and listening to each one's hopes for the future. They have fun nights dancing and many days full of sun at the beach. Their summer-- like all summers-- comes to an end and John must return to his duties in the army. Meanwhile, Savannah returns home to her small country town of Lenior, North Carolina. Still hopeful, letters are written back and forth, and phone call are made as often as possible. All is well until the disaster of 9/11. John enlists for another term in the army to serve his country instead of returning home to begin his life with Savannah. From there, Dear John is a roller coaster of events, tragedies and desicions that will change the lives of Savannah Lynn Curtis and John Tyree forever.
Dear John unravels two completely different lives and ties them together in a sweet romance. This book definitely has my recommendation for anyone looking for a good book to curl up on the couch and read on a rainy day.
